The Serenity Prayer

By K.P.R.

God, give me grace to accept with serenity
the things that cannot be changed,
courage to change the things
which should be changed,
and the wisdom to distinguish
the one from the other.

Living one day at a time,                          活在当下的每一天
Enjoying one moment at a time,                     享受当下的每一刻
Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace,
Taking, as Jesus did,                                                        如基督耶稣一样
This sinful world as it is,                                                 坦然承受这罪孽的世界
Not as I would have it,
Trusting that You will make all things right,
If I surrender to Your will,                                            我只需单单顺从您的意志
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life,              如此,在今生我可满足欢喜
And supremely happy with You forever in the next.

Amen.

《问题背后的问题》(The Question Behind the Question  by John G. Miller, 2001, Denver Press, ISBN 0-9665832-9-9)一书的作者John G. Miller 约翰米勒把尼布尔的《平静的祷告》改了一下,也很有点意思:

God, give me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change,
the courage to change the one I can,
and the wisdom to know it’s me.
