Ode to the Autumn Breeze 刘禹锡 [唐] By LIU, Yuxi (Tang Dynasty, 772~842 AD)
I recall bidding you farewell as yellow mums bloomed. Now I return, guided by black cicadas’ tune. Your gentle whispers awaken me from slumber’s grasp, Yet in the mirror, a year’s passing reveals my visage, alas. When a steed’s mane bristles under your spell, it’s a sign to embark on the frontier, where grasslands swell. When a harpy eagle’s gaze widens with desire, it yearns for the embrace of clouds, soaring higher. My heart, too, yearns to wander the boundless, azure sky. Despite illness, I’ll ascend the tower with you, spirits soaring high.
